Amazon.com Product Description The Xantrex Technologies XPower Pocket mobile power source 175-watt inverter utilizes advanced electronics to convert the 12-volt DC battery power from a vehicle or airplane into 115-volt household AC electricity. If your laptop battery runs low, simply plug into the AC outlet on the inverter and you have got portable power to keep working, just like you are at the office or at home. In addition to the AC power outlet, this inverter includes a USB port, which can power or charge an iPod, a Blackberry, and a wide range of other electronic devices. Weighing just 0.7 pounds, the XPower Pocket Inverter 175 easily fits inside even the most stuffed carry-on or laptop bag. Its integrated vehicle and airplane DC connector will keep your iPod music flowing, your cell phone charged, and your laptop running -- all without the need for multiple adapters. The inverter is covered by a 1-year warranty.

It failed and I goofed August 19, 2008 Xantrex Technologies XPower Pocket Mobile Power Source 175-Watt Inverter #813-0291 It totally pooped out and failed after only a few months occasional use. It worked fairly well on some things like 85 watt curling iron and cellphone charger. It would recharge the laptop but struggled to power the laptop if the laptop battery was low. This despite the very low power demand rating on the laptop.
Recently on a long trip it just wouldn't work any more. We looked it over, tried a different cord on it, and it wouldn't respond. Forgetting it had a one year warranty and having no room for dysfunctional stuff, we tossed it in the trash. Rats!
We are shopping for a 400 or 500 watt inverter now. This one was marginal for our laptop and we need to be able to count on the inverter for the things we need it for. I wouldn't recommend this tiny device.
Pleased August 15, 2008 Did the job! Four seven hour days powering laptop in car. Only complaint, power light not visible in daylight.
Xantrex Mobile Power Inverter July 31, 2008 This product works good. I have used it only once so far. The price is acceptable too.
Long distance driver with kids July 31, 2008 Unit has the juice to power the wife's laptop and the kids' DVD player though I got nothing out of the USB plug even when everything else was unplugged.
Good small inverter for only a handful of electronics July 29, 2008 This inverter is usually OK for powering my laptop inside my car, but if I don't keep the screen brightness set very low, my wireless card turned off, and my computer set in "power saver" mode (a Vista thing), then my touchpad goes buggy after a while, and movement becomes erratic. Also, the strain of having my computer plugged in while the battery tries to charge is simply too much for this small unit, so I must either charge the battery before use, or remove it prior to use in order to prevent shutoff.
While the small amount of power provided limits this inverter's range of useful applications, its tiny size and affordable price tag make it desirable for lighter tasks, such as powering a cell-phone charger inside one's vehicle or plugging in smaller electronics, such as a battery charger, DS charger, PSP charger, etc.
The biggest advantage (IMO) that this inverter has over comparable inverters is that this unit has low voltage shutoff to prevent battery drain, and a simple indicator light to tell you whether everything is OK (blue light) or if something is wrong (red light)
