Fire Hazard June 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought 2 of these lamps in 2006 and last month it started on fire shortly after turning it on. I have 2 small children and my husband had to take the lamp outside to get the fire out. Do NOT buy this lamp or a similar style by the same company! I also cannot find any recalls on it. Will Amazon/Target refund my $? Doubt it. The flames began to shoot out of the top of the lamp, by the bulb. It seems to be an electrical problem as the light socket is fully burndt. Weird how it would work for almost 2 years and then cause a problem. I still have another one, and will not be using it. Does anyone know where I can get a refund for this defective item? I still have the burnt lamp I can send for proof! It seems to me by other replies, that there have been other fire problems with the same style lamp! Yes, it looks nice and it worked fine since 2006, but I would rather have a house to live in than a "nice" looking lamp . . . Watch out.
Modern & stylish lamp with amazing finish! January 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't know, what other reviewers were doing with this lamp that it caught fire. For a price of just under $40 this is very reasonable (The same style and design of lamp at JCP is for $70 in sale and $49 in other store). Believe me, this is a very modern looking & stylish lamp for people who like modern contemporary stuff in their homes as compared to traditional. The stainless steel finish is very smooth. You can use up to 60watts bulb (soft light) or energy saver in its reading light and 150watts (reg or energy sav) on top. Its very easy to assemble and not too much heavy. Anyone can easily shift it from one place to another. I am very happy with this purchase.
Yipe! June 1, 2006 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
Mine died in a spectacular blaze of fire, nearly setting my curtains ablaze. So, that pretty much leaves out recommending it to anyone. Additionally, before the flaming incident that precipitated its demise, the top part flopped around because the screws wouldn't stay tight for long. On the plus side (lol) it was cheap.
Torchiere lamp September 13, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The lamp is pretty cool looks wise. It has both a reading lamp and a full sized lamp which is always nice. For the price I think that it was pretty reasonable. I would suggest this lamp to anyone who is looking for something cheap, yet attractive in style and design.
Pretty lamp, but cheap, irreplaceable shades make it a lemon August 14, 2005 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I really loved the way this lamp looked and the light it gave off. The switch on the torchiere lamp is VERY stiff and tough to turn at times, but I could have lived with that. What I (and the lamp) could not live with was the thin, cheap glass from which the torchiere shade is constructed. My lamp is on carpet, and sits about 6" from the wall. Within a couple of months of having it, the shade sustained two huge cracks when it was bumped lightly against the wall. Since that time the shade bumped the wall lightly again, and the entire shade shattered. Not at all safe. I know the cost for this lamp isn't high, but I do wish the glass in the shade was just a bit thicker to prevent such an occurrence. I have another torchiere on the other side of the sofa that paid 2.5 times as much for, and that's served me well with no problems or breakage for 6 years & through one cross-country move. Perhaps in this case you really do get what you pay for. If anyone knows where I could get replacement shades that would FIT this lamp, please let me know. I looked, but it seems this shade is an odd size. :(
