Very difficult to clean this one and there are much simpler ones out there! November 12, 2008 I read about the benefits of cat fountains and used this one for a full year of my life, struggling with it every week. The parts are complicated and do not disassemble easily. There are 2 large parts that need to be unscrewed from one another, and one in particular gets sort of jammed when the water creates a seal in it and then very difficult to unscrew. I kept thinking how someone with arthritis or who was elderly or just not very strong could never use this thing. I thought that there must be more user-friendly ones out there, and I am so grateful to find out that there are! I decided to try the Drinkwell Platinum fountain out to see if I could make this any easier. I wish I had done this a year ago. The cats seem like this one even more than the Cat-it, and it disassembles and reassembles so easily! What a huge relief! Pay the few extra bucks for the Drinkwell and know that you have saved yourself a lot of frustration.
Great product September 29, 2008 The reason I'm on this site now is that it's time to buy another Cat-it. I've had mine for nearly two years. The warranty is for only one year! I've never used another brand, so can't compare them, but this one solved the problem of our two cats trying to drink out of the bathroom sink, which my husband detests. It IS a pain to clean, and I find it necessary to clean it every 5-7 days. This frequency is probably due to the fact that it is located in a high traffic area in my kitchen (near the door to the deck) as I have nowhere else to put it. But the cats love it and drink more water now. So I'm buying another since we wore out the first one!
Cats liked it, but I'm not so sure... August 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I originally bought this product at a pet store for my older cat with renal failure, thinking it would encourage him to drink more. I think he used it more than a regular bowl, but he never caught on to the drinking from the dome concept. After Max died, I adopted two younger cats. They both loved the fountain and drank directly from the dome.br /Recently, the fountain stopped working. The motor runs but the water isn't spilling over the dome. I think the motor is tired and not pumping as hard. Aside from the fact that this product stopped working after only one year, I have a few other complaints. It is a pain to clean and put back together. The flower shaped object on top never sat right. When the water level would drop, the motor would get really loud. I would buy another one (simply because my cats loved it), but I don't make a habit of buying products that quit working before I think they should. Another thing to consider, this product takes up a lot of floor space.
wonderful August 26, 2008 The one thing that drew me to try this fountain over others was the dome. With the water on it, there's less of a chance of splashing like I was reading in a lot of reviews about other cat fountains that have a stream.br /br /I know some reviewers expressed a difficulty in getting the dome put back on right, and I admit that I had a little trouble at first. After several months of use though I have really got it down, and no longer have to think at all about who to put it back on.br /br /The base of the dome unscrews, so fill up, and cleaning is very easy. I do a quick rinse off once a week, and then a good clean once a month. Even with two cats, and a very dry climate (I live in AZ), I still only have to fill this every few days (usually 2 1/2-3).br /br /I admit, I have completely ignored their recommendation of replacing the filter, and I only do that every six weeks. I take the sprayer on my sink, and use hot water to clean it off, and I have not had a problem.br /br /It's generally quiet, except when the dome is getting low, and then it will make noise. The ac adapter does get hot, but I have not had any problems with it.br /br /Overall, I'd give it 4 1/2 stars.
My cat adores his drinking fountain! August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just got a 12 week old kitten. He took to the drinking fountain right away. He loves drinking from the dome and from the resevoir.br /br /The only time this fountain gets really noisy is when the water level gets too low. For some reason, my water level shrinks pretty quickly. Not sure if it's evaporation or the kitten drinks so much water. br /br /Some great pieces of advice I got from the other reviews that improved the noise and product performance:br /-If you have the big fountain (with the attached dish), fill the dish and dome completely with water. Plug the fountain in and wait for some of the water in the dome to drain (some water drains out and leaves the water level about an inch from the top of the dome). Unplug the machine, refill the dome to the top with water. Plug back in! When you do this, you are ensuring there is the maximum capacity of water in the fountain thus cutting down on the noise factor that may happen when the water level lowers.br /
