Great product for pet lovers :) October 6, 2008 I bought this to further spoil my already pampered pets. We have two larger dogs (50-60 pounds each), and 2 adult cats in our household. All are in pretty good physical condition, so I didn't purchase this to see any real improvement in serious health conditions, just a better change in overall water intake and general health. Especially for one of my cats, who doesn't drink much water.br /br /I purchased this elsewhere for $50 including shipping. I think it's well worth the price. Anyway, it arrived a few days later and it was very easy to install. I put in the filter, filled the tank with water, plugged it in, and turned it on. Although I did install the filter, I can't attest to the water filtration quality because we use filtered R/O water already.br /br /My first impressions:br /-The footprint of this isn't too large, when you consider it's intended for larger animals. We had a large stainless steel bowl before, and this doesn't take up much more room than that. br /-Although I think it's not a bad price for what you get, I do wish it wasn't all plastic. But this isn't a complaint really; I knew what I was getting. br /br /It took a lot of sniffing and staring at this thing for all my pets to get used to it. The cats were first to drink out of flowing water, but both dogs still seem to prefer the bowl and occasionally feel adventuresome enough to drink out of the flowing water. I notice that they do drink a lot more water, especially the cats. Our older cat drinks *much* more water than before, and has more energy as a result. I've only had it a week or so, but the dogs are getting used to it gradually so I'm happy with it.br /br /I read a review here that the water level got too low. I have not had this problem yet - just the opposite. There is a "fill" line, and our water level stays right around that fill line without me filling it much. The dogs seem to have no trouble drinking from that water level, so unless you have dogs that drink an extreme amount of water at one time, or you really dislike replenishing the water one or twice a day, I really don't think this will be a problem. br /br /One other major complaint I've read about this product is the noise level. Honestly, I don't understand these bad reviews about the noise level. Since this is a machine, a little noise is expected. There is a little knob for flow setting. I have it on the lowest flow setting. You know those desktop fountains with the rocks and flowing water? It sounds exactly like those; just a constant stream of water. Some say you can't hear this over the TV. My TV is 20 feet from the fountain, in a great big open room, and I can watch TV without even noticing this thing. There might be some lemons out there that are really loud, but the one I had (even on the highest flow setting) is NOT loud at all. No more than those little rock fountains. br /br /Overall, I think these are a good investment. It really gets all my pets drinking a lot more water than they did before. It keeps the water continuously cold, and I don't notice the water getting dirty. I have only had to clean it once in the week I've had it, and I think that's sufficient. It's a water fountain for my pets, so it really doesn't have that many functions or expectations from me - just so they drink more water. It accomplished that, and I have no big beef with it, so I gave it 5 stars. It's not all that complicated. If you want your pets to drink more clean, cold water, and you can spare $50, this is a good addition to your home. I'm glad I got it. :)
Awesome product... September 30, 2008 This product is great for my 3 samoyds and 2 cats. Only problem is it does need to be cleaned weekly cuz of the food droppings..otherwise saves me on changing water bowls.
More interesting to drink from than the toilet September 20, 2008 Finally a water dish my dog finds more interesting than the toilet. The only negative is it is more time consuming to clean than a regular dish. It has to be taken apart once a week to remove dog hair and other debris that gets caught in the mechanism that circulates the water. It's not difficult to do and cleaning the dish takes less than five minutes.
NO more drinking from the toilet! August 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this product because my dog liked drinking from the toilet!!! YUCK! no one likes a wet seat!! The drinkwell fountain did the trick. He likes cold running water and therefore likes his fountain. As the other reviewers say sometimes you get a foamy slober island. I don't care. And as for filling it, not a big deal. It is very easy to fill and holds plenty of water. We like to add icecubes to the bowl! He loves it and thankfully does not drink from the toilet anymore!!!
Wonderful - answers to some problems raised August 22, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I use this for a lab mix (70 pounds) and 4 cats. It is great. The filters are just fish tank filters, and I have been able to buy in bulk on line from a fish supply store. I, too, found debris in the drinking bowl (dogs are definitely messier than cats!) but an easy way to clean it out is to "catch" the stuff using a fish tank net (a small one used to catch fish). This has saved me from having to empty and clean every other day. If the flow is kept on the lowest setting, the motor is much quieter.
