5 out of 5 stars Automatic Pet Feeder   October 18, 2008
Since our cat loves his food had the Petmate Feeder figured out pretty quickly (he learned that he just had to stick his paw into the opening to get more food), we thought he might figure out this feeder as well. To our surprise he didn't. It works amazingly well and is really easy to clean. I just wish we had found it sooner.

4 out of 5 stars Happy that I bought them   June 1, 2008

I was hesitant at first but I took a leap and I am very happy that I did. I bought 2 for each of my cats and after 3 days they got use to it. I do recommend to leave the recorded messaging empty unless you are able to get your cats own meow recorded. The sliding latch gets caught once in a while but I just stop using that feature and use the 4th bowl as the first feeding. All works out- but the directions at first were a little difficult. I feel that this is a cool thing and I do not have to race home to feed the kitties.

2 out of 5 stars Buy a more expensive model   May 15, 2008

I decided to buy this feeder because it was a little cheaper. My kitten figured out how to get to the food and managed to break it in less than two weeks. Plus, you can only set the feed times on the hour.

4 out of 5 stars Good automatic cat feeder   May 3, 2008

The short review: This feeder works great with only a few drawbacks. I highly recommend it for anyone trying to get their cats to stop waking them up in the morning to be fed.br /br /The long review: We had shopped around a lot to find an automatic cat feeder. One of our cats would insist on waking us up with non-stop meowing (and climbing on us) until we would wake up and feed him. Do a YouTube search for "Simon's cat cat man do" to see what I mean. br /br /We wanted something automatic so that thier feeding would happen independant of our alarm clock or our getting up.br /br /That being said, this feeder is great. It does have a few drawbacks, but the extra sleep and peace and quiet we get are well worth it!br /br /So here are the details... at first the cats were scared of it. As soon as it started rotating, they were running away and hissing at it. That didn't last long once they figured out there was food in it. Now it is their best friend and they can't wait for it to go off. br /br /Being able to record your own voice is really nice, since we have two cats and want to call each of them to their own bowl. However, don't plan on one cat going to a specific bowl with more or less food in it. We tried to make that happen with no luck. It is best just to put the same amount of food in each (if you have two bowls and two cats). We use smaller amounts more often since we have one cat who will eat anything and the other will eat a little and then leave to come back and eat the rest later. The always hungry cat would swoop in and eat everything, so the smaller amounts more often helps.br /br /So how "cat-proof" is it? This bowl has 4 dishes that rotate around. It didn't take long for our cats to pry open the cover that goes over the first dish and eat the food there (which is bin #4). So we only fill dishes 1,2, and 3. Leaving dish 4 empty avoids this problem, and they are definitely not able to get into dishes 1-3. Even if they did, unlike other feeders, you set how much food is in each dish, so they wouldn't be breaking into the "motherload" and eating a ton of food. They would just be getting their normal amount early. But, as I said, they cannot get in there anyway. I've seen other cat feeders that allow the cats to stick there paw in and get more food. Not this one.br /br /Programming: The directions are decent and the setup is very easy. It may take a few minutes the first time, but I read horror stories about other feeders and thought this one was a piece of cake.br /br /Construction: Besides the cats being able to open the door to the first bin, it seems cat-proof. I would advise being very careful about taking the covers off when filling them. There are tiny plastic pins that go into little holes, and one of our pins broke off in the hole. Even if they all broke off though, I could see it being very easy to rig up a way to keep the covers on if needed (if you happen to be crafty).br /br /Price: At less than $30, this is probably one of the least expensive automatic pet feeders out there, and is also probably the best that I've seen.br /br /Feeding schedule: It has 4 bins, and we fill bins 1-3 with a small amount of food, set to go off at 6AM, 7AM, and 5PM. We use the 4th time (7PM) as a reminder for us to fill it again, then press the "Start Tomorrow" button and and give them their last feeding in dish #4. This will make more sense once you own it.br /br /Overall, it works for our needs and has been really great. It has a few drawbacks, but they are relatively minor. Our cats are happy and we get to sleep. For the price, you can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 stars Great auto-feeder   April 22, 2008
I really needed something so my cat wasn't whining at 6:00 every morning for his AM feeding and also feed him in the middle of the day when I'm at work. This feeder does exactly what it promises. The rotating sectioned tray is under a hood that my cat can't get too. You can measure your own food so it is exactly the amount you want to give. There's even a place to keep ice for the occasional wet food feeding to stay fresher. The timer is great because you can set it for anytime you want and there is a little digital display with a clock. There is even a voice recording so you pet will hear your voice when it is time to eat. It is sturdy and substantial and I think a great value for the amount you pay considering all the very expensive feeders that I read reviews on. I highly recommend it.
