Great Three Gallon Aquarium! November 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this aquarium after I bought a Crown-Tail Betta, and wanted to upgrade from a one gallon bowl. =)br /br /Pros: br /1. VERY easy to set up, but really look at the illustrations on the instructions, because they don't tell you which direction to install some things in. But it still only took me about 30 mins. to set the whole thing up.br /2. Filter makes almost NO noise. br /3. The built in lights really bring out the colors in my Betta fish. (And the light bulb comes already installed/hooked up, so all you have to do is plug it in!)br /4. It's really compact for a three gallon tank.br /5. It's a lot less expensive than most three gallon aquariums.br /6. The filter works great.br /7. Easy to clean and un-assemble.br /8. It comes with sample Tetra water conditioner and Tetra Tropical Fish Flakes! =)br /9. My Betta loves hiding between the intake pipe and my heater.br /10. You actually don't really need a heater (although you should have one just in case) because the aquarium maintains a good temperature well. (Plus, the lights add heat.)br /br /Cons:br /1. The filter won't work and will make a strange gargling noise if the water level goes below a certain point (so if you're replacing some of the water in the tank, make sure to unplug the filter).br /2. For some fish, the current from the filter may be too strong. (Also, if you drop your fish's food right near the current, the food will go under and get sucked up into the intake pipe.)br /3. Smaller fish can get caught in the filter, so if you want to buy this aquarium, make sure you have a fish that's sized like a Betta or just a bit smaller.br /4. The light will heat up the water. br /5. The acrylic tank scratches easily.br /6. The hinged access panel that you open for feeding isn't great, because there isn't enough room to actually get food into the tank without dropping most of it into the filter. So I just lift the hood off to feed. (No biggie)br /br /Tips:br /1. Make sure to buy Rite-Size Z cartridges for Eclipse SYSTEM Three, not Eclipse Three. They're totally different cartridges, and I accidently ordered the Eclipse Three ones, so I had to change the order. br /2. The brochure/instruction manuel that comes with the aquarium shows the Eclipse System 3 being inhabited by ten large fish, which is misleading--DO NOT keep that many fish in just a three gallon tank!br /3. Since the lights heat up the water, make sure to check the temperature every so often if you want to leave the light on for a long period of time.br /br /Overall, I highly recommend this aquarium for someone who isn't REALLY serious about fish keeping but wants a good quality aquarium that will keep his or her fish happy and healthy! =D
Reliable, Easy to care for (and goodlooking) Fishtank September 21, 2008 My 3 gallon eclipse is going on 6 years of age and still running strong. Not to mention, i'm still using all the original parts. It's great for use as a small tank - or a fish infirmary..or to keep as just a plant tank. I've used it mostly for bettas, shrimp and as a plant tank.br /br /It's very quietbr /Easy to change the filterbr /br /downsides:br /the filter replacements that are made for it really skimp out on the br /carbon.br /I sometimes just make my own filters.br /br /I also own the eclipse filtration hood for the 10 gallon tank and it's run like a champ for five years.br /I've used penguin water filtration systems in the past and would not go back to that type of pump. br /br /The only filtration system I've owned that I like more than this one is the fluval system.
A Wonderful Aquarium August 11, 2008 I have had this tank for two months and have been nothing short of impressed with its performance. It is whisper quiet, I cannot even hear it unless I'm standing right in front of the aquarium. The light is excellent, making the tank look absolutely beautiful when illuminated - it really enhances my fish. Very easy to clean, I change half the water monthly (with gravel vacuum), and change the filter at the same time. My current filter has lasted for longer than a month since I have small, clean fish. The water is crystal clear at all times (even when it's time to clean after a month) and the bio-wheel is very effective, there is hardly any waste to be found in my rocks. Despite the complaints by others concerning the small feeding gap, I have had no trouble with this whatsoever. I have small hands, but I think the gap should be fine for anyone, just use your fingertips. I can really think of nothing significant to complain about (for once)! This is a wonderful aquarium for anyone who enjoys the fish hobby - I would recommend it to anyone.
Awesome March 7, 2008 If you don't have much room but want a nice aquarium, I'd totally recommend the Eclipse 3. I'd been wanting to get another aquarium, but was lacking space for a nice 20-30 gallon tank like I'd wanted. I did some research on this one before I bought it and I absolutely love it. It's a beautiful system and stays super clean with Bettas. I'd say this is the perfect tank for those of you with Bettas and want to provide the poor little guys with some room after being stuck in those cramped cups.br /br /The assembly is easy and I had no issues putting everything together (Though I have had past experience. But still, it's pretty straight forward in the directions and shouldn't be an issue for beginners). It's super quiet, and the hinged lid in the hood makes it great to access the filter and cartridge for cleaning. I don't see why people are complaining about the hood as far as feeding goes. There's a small space between the filter and the edge of the lid opening which works fine for me. I just sprinkle a bit of the food in that space, and it works out fine. The filter just pushes the food out and away, so it's not like the fish won't get to it.br /br /I'll agree with other reviewers about goldfish in this tank. Unless they're teeeeny goldfish, you'll really want something bigger and with a bigger filter. Even if they're tiny, you'll be cleaning the filter a ton with those guys.br /br /Absolutely recommended for beginners and perspective Betta owners. Ideal for those who want to have a tank but are short on space and cash.
Nice concept but not built to last February 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What's alluring about the "Eclipse System" series of tanks is their all-in-one, compact and clean designs. It makes them perfect for desktops, book shelves, and home decor. However, it seems as if the smaller models are just a bit *too* small and short-lived for the price.br /br /This tank lasted me a little over 2 years before the light fixture died. Disassembly and close examination of the fixture revealed what looks like burn marks all over the plastic housing, which is a little scary. I have a feeling the compactness of the design does not lend itself to proper ventilation, and the light fixture stays wet due to condensation. Marineland wants $35 w/ shipping to replace the light fixture, which is more than I paid for the entire tank system to begin with. So, it is pretty much a disposable tank in my opinion.br /br /On the plus side, this tank supported limited numbers of small fish just fine with no "crashes". It looks great and fits in limited spaces. However, I would not purchase this tank again. For small tanks I have one 10-gallon and one 5-gallon conventional glass tank and both have outlasted this tank with no problems. Also, if and when I need replacement parts for these tanks, I know I can get them locally and cheap. Finally, I would not recommend tanks less than 10-20 gallons in size for beginning aquarists. They require more attention than most people are willing to give and will not support the number or size of fish that most people want to have, and they are definitely too small for goldfish (or other high-waste producers).br /br /
