Couldn't be happier (both me and the cats!) March 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having owned this product for more than a month...
Pros: - Same price as the smaller, carpet-covered cat trees at PetSmart, but you don't have to fit it in your car and lug it home. - Stable structure. Passes the 8-cat test. Over and over again. - Roomy. Seen as many as 5 cats sleeping comfortably on it at one time. And the house in the center is big enough for the large kitty in our home (who has trouble fitting into standard sized kitty cubbies) -- with a little room to spare. - Soft material is plush and harder to shred than carpeting. It does shed a little, though. - Plenty of rope scratching posts that the cats have found more appealing than our furniture. - Attractive and curiosity-inducing in humans. One cat owner friend has already asked for the Amazon.com link to this product.
Cons: - You have to put it together yourself. But instructions are easy enough to follow, and this allows for some creativity: (1) if you have a drill, you can change the position of the top tier over to the other side of the central house, and (2) you can switch the two top tiers (the flat one and the nest-like one) so that kitties aren't quite so difficult to extract from the nest. I did both and am pleased with the alteration. - The paw-shaped tier towards the top has a little ridge in back that looks like it should be sturdy enough for cats to lean back against, but it's just foam and sewed on, so the occasional sleeping cat does tumble backwards out of it when it gives way. - The cats don't seem to understand what the hammock is for. But they do enjoy unhooking it from its position daily. - The dangling mouse didn't survive long. But he was well loved, and we've strung up a new toy since his demise.
All in all, it's the best cat tree we've ever owned. Extremely multiple-cat-friendly. Highly recommended.
As another reviewer suggested, for maximum enjoyment: put the tree in a high-traffic part of the house, where kitty can watch the humans and humans can watch the kitty, preferably near a window so kitty can look out and sleep in the sun.
I have five cats - five opinions! February 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have purchased numerous cat trees over the years, and the cats always shred the carpeting to smitherenes. But this cat tree has fur fabric and all posts are sisal, so I anticipate it lasting much longer than my other cat trees. In the month since I purchased it, they have only scratched on the sisal posts, never on the fabric covering. It is very sturdy and has plenty of height for my "height loving" cats. If you want to fetch your cat out of the upper crow's nest, you'll need a good sized stepstool to get yourself up there. The cat tree is well built, strong with a stable base. When multiple cats get wild on it, it stands firm. The house is roomy enough for two kitties to nap in and they utilize both exit doors when they roughhouse. My cats also love the dangle toys. With the multiple levels the perfect distance apart, my cats find the tree easy to climb, even for the older ones. I purchased the honey colored version and it matches the decor of my house beautifully. I have to admit, my other cat owning friends also bought this same tree after seeing how much fun my cats were having on it. As with any cat tree, the major attraction of the toy is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Make sure you put the tree where the cats can enjoy and be near the activity center of your home. The distributor of the item is very prompt in shipping and prompt to answer any questions or concerns you have after delivery. Very nice transaction and I'll buy from them again.

This cat tree is a little lighter than described, but I was extremely happy with this purchase. I was very happy that my three cats love it. They use it everyday.
