3 out of 5 stars Cats never use it.   October 3, 2008
We bought this to encourage our cat to drink because of his urinary problems. The cat never used it. We have a new cat. He does not use it. He prefers drinking out of the dog water or the toilet, which we discourage. A visitor cat who enjoys drinking out of faucets also doesn't use it. I wonder, even if it has a filter, if the water still gets stale. I am not inclined to taste it, however.br /br /Otherwise it works well, fills easily, and is relatively silent. After 3 months I have turned it off. Perhaps I will try again with another cat.

3 out of 5 stars Not Bad Before, But Now It Has Been Outdone Hands Down By It's Platinum Replacement!   October 1, 2008

This pet fountain was okay when I first bought two of them for my cats several years ago, but it did have problems, and they are as follows:br /br /1. You absolutely needed to get the reservoir tank in order to have enough water for your cat. The small reservoir alone did not hold enough water.br /br /2. I didn't really care for the old-style filters that didn't have the individual compartments like the new ones.br /br /3. The filter system seemed to clog up rather easily, compared to the new version.br /br /4. It was very difficult to clean. I constantly had a hard time cleaning in the smaller areas, which you had to do by hand because this version wasn't "dishwasher safe."br /br /5. It always seemed to "slime-up" on me even though I cleaned it at least twice per week. Now it didn't slime up every week, but often enough that it seemed like it.br /br /Please don't take this review the wrong way, this was a great fountain and I never regret getting two of them for my cats years ago. However, having said that, there is absolutely no reason for you to own one of these now. Drinkwell has come out with a much improved product in their Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain and their accompanying Drinkwell Premium Replacement Filter Cartridges (3-Pack).br /br /If you are considering getting this fountain, DON'T! Instead get the Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain it is a much better product and you and your cats will both be equally impressed with it.br /br /Shawn Kovacichbr /100% Cat Lover

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Product, Though a bit Noisy, it is WORTH IT!   September 17, 2008
KEEPS CATS HAPPY KEEPS THEM HEALTHY. A+br /br /Excellent product, I have had it for nearly two years now. br /br /With two adopted feral kittens (now both nearly 3), I had a few tasks at hand to say the least. One of them was that the cats wouldn't drink water out of a bowl without putting their paws in it and splashing it all over the floor first. Fun times.br /br /Enter the Drinkwell Fountain. br /br /Boy cat LOVES to lick from the waterfall and Girl cat happily drinks from the bowl area. Both, quite noticeably, drink more than I've ever seen cats drink of still water in a bowl. br /br /They are healthy and happy - and I am happy! While it takes a little effort to clean thoroughly, so what? It's a great tool. I clean usually every week to sometimes (with the help of the CARBOR FILTER) every two weeks. I also appreciate the filters properties to ensure clean water.br /br /After some time I acquired the 50 oz. RESERVOIR on the end so I never have to worry for more than a few days that they won't be able to drink up to their hearts' content. br /br /Maybe some day when the motor kicks the bucket I will try the next level up if it is quieter, however I hope for some years to come to keep enjoying my current Drinkwell!br /

4 out of 5 stars Great for cats with urinary problems   September 11, 2008
This is a great product. I got mine for my two cats, who love to drink out of the faucet and bathtub. I had wanted one for awhile, but thought the cost was a little unreasonable. When my oldest cat got his fourth urinary tract infection I decided the cost was worth it if I could improve upon his health. So far he has been healthy and loves to use it. I was a little surprised the "hum" of the motor was a bit louder than I had anticipated, but the cats seem unphased by it. I had read some complaints that the motors burn out without constant attention. I haven't had any trouble with mine, even with the minimal maintenance I am able to give it. I add water when it gets low, and clean the whole thing out once a week. I have it in a low traffic area, which keeps the hair out, which I think is the trick to keeping the motor healthy.

1 out of 5 stars Knuckle buster and impossible to clean with out a dishwasher   September 9, 2008

I've had our drinkwell for about 6 years now. The cats love it, the dog loves it. But boy is it a b*tch to clean!!! I wish they'd redesign the dam* thing.br /br / Attention Drinkwell Engineersbr /br /1. Take out ALL the right angles AND THE CRANNIES. Design it so it is actually possible to clean with your silly bottle brushes. br /br /2. Make it easier to pull out the stupid pump with out causing injury to one's knuckles and fingers. Hint, cut away the back of the fountain where the pump is so you can actually get a grip on it to twist it out.br /br /That said, when it's time to wash it, I put everything (except the pump) in the dishwasher and run it on sanitize. It comes out slime free! While it's washing, I nurse my banged-up knuckles with some neosporin, bandaids and an ice cold beer and we're good to go for another 3 weeks.br /br /
