Default My 16-year-old girl Midnight, seems to get agitated when you stroke her back towards

It is certainly possible that a 16-year-old cat, like your Midnight, may have some arthritis. Hip dysplasia is a little different, as it is an abnormal conformation of the hips, but it can also still cause arthritis in the hips and pain/discomfort. I suspect your Baltimore veterinarian is hesitant to give the cortisone injections due to possible side effects. While steroids are a very helpful drug, they can contribute to diabetes with continued use (especially the injections) and make underlying heart or kidney disease worse. There are many other options to treat arthritis/joint pain. You could ask your veterinarian about some of the glucosamine/chondroitin medications available for our cats, as well as the option of low dose pain medications. Talk to your veterinarian about what options he or she feels would be best for Midnight so we can keep her as comfortable as possible as she ages.
