Default What if anything can be done about a chronic stuffy nose in one nostril? The vet told

I think the first thing to find out is exactly why your cat has a chronic stuffed up nose. In most cases, cats that have allergies have itchy skin, not a stuffed up nose like humans. I would not just assume allergies are the culprit, especially since only one nostril is involved. Chronic unilateral nasal congestion could be due to many things: scarring from a past upper respiratory infection, a bad tooth, a nasal polyp, a foreign body, a chronic infection or unfortunately even cancer which is more likely in older cats. It is ideal to do a full testing on these cats including lab work and a feline leukemia/feline aids test. In some cases, x-rays or a nasal flush can be helpful. Ideally we always want to treat the underlying cause. If this cannot be determined, then nose drops, long term antibiotic treatment or antihistamines could all be possible treatments. If your cat is not acting sick and is maintaining his weight, it may not be an emergency to act on but you still have many things you could do for your cat.
