If you have any worries about what is going on, I would pursue this further, especially now that your cat is coughing. Coughing can signify many things including bronchitis, asthma and parasitic disease just to name a few. Even if his lungs sounded okay in a physical exam, he could still have some changes in his lungs. I would have him re-examined and possibly consider an x-ray of his chest to be sure there isn't anything to worry about.
