Default My cat died a few weeks back after he ate a baked potato with garlic, cheese, sour cr

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your cat. Garlic can cause hemolytic anemia in cats by making their red blood cells more fragile but I would not have expected things to go so quickly. Potatoes can also cause some stomach upset due to a compound called solanine that is under the skin when it turns green due to light exposure but these signs are usually easily treated. From what you describe, I would find it unusual that the garlic or potato was the cause of his death but I never say never. Unfortunately, we may not have an answer in this case. Wish I could be more help...again, please know we are sorry to hear about your cat.

Sorry for your loss! The best is to give our friends a balanced cat food & NOT the food we, humans eat.
Take care,

I had always heard that onions could kill my cats but this is the first I have heard of any problem with garlic and potatoes. I am very glad I found this post.

I didn't know about this either. Thanks for posting. I think I'd refrain from giving my cat vegies to make sure.

Thumbs down

Hi Kathie,

It's a surprise for me to hear that cats eat vegetables.
Mine hate them...

Oh Maya, my cat loves eating raw food, vegies. She even likes eating rice.

Zipper will eat olives, peas, cream cheese and corn. She also loves it in the morning if I leave a small puddle of milk on the counter for her. Oscar is strickly a cat food eater. I won't let Zipper make me indulge her quirky taste buds anymore I guess. I'm sorry for your loss.
