Default Tomcats, do they kill kittens?

Hi everyone, sorry if this is the wrong forum!

My friends kitten was killed and eaten in her garden recently and she is trying to find out what did it.

Her housemate left the kitchen door open and the kitten must have gone outside.

It was a 3 month old kitten, there were no remains, apart from a few bones and a shredded collar.

Would a tomcat have done this? Or a fox?

She says that there was a really large ginger cat that came back to the garden 2 nights in a row after the incident and just hung about in the garden for a few minutes before leaving.

I have read that a male cat may have killed the kitten, but that it is very rare for it to eat the kitten.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks.

I'm not an expert on this, but I'd guess a fox. They kill and haunt cats. A friend's cat barely got away from a fox once, it was quite messy.

do you live in the city or in the county? Most predators in cities are not as bold.

Tomcats, especially feral tomcats, have been known to sometimes kill kittens that are not their own.

I've heard about some Tomcats killing kittens, but do they eat them too?

quite possibly, cats in gen are not as domesticated as dogs and tomcats are even less so then neutered cats.
