Default Our cat is being bullied

My girlfriend and I are looking after a friends cat for the next 6 months. She was a bit timid when she arrived, but soon grew to know us, the flat and the garden. We have a nice garden, but its got pretty much everything wandering through it (Foxes, Cats etc).

Fifi the cat (shes about 3 I think), goes out regularly, but over the last few weeks we've noticed she wont go far from the flat into the garden and more recently she sometimes wont go much further than the back door. We've also noticed next doors ginger cat hanging around a lot more and it looks like she's bullying Fifi - I'm assuming over terriroty (the ginger cats been around for years). Fifi has become a bit sullen, like living with a teenager and wont venture anywhere in the garden unless we're out there.

Has anyone got any recommendations on how we can build Fifis confidence to defend herself/territory? Or perhaps ways of keeping the ginger cat at bay?

Hi there, it's a tough problem to have. The trouble is if the ginger tom has been used to coming and going he will have marked his territory and will challenge another cat who suddenly appears which is bad news for Fifi. The only thing I can think of is that if you see the ginger cat in your garden try and scare it away by perhaps turning a hose on him (if you have one) which he won't like but won't hurt him. If you do it a few times he may think twice about coming in and Fifi may be able to enjoy going out again!
