Default Profender

Has anyone had to use Profender for tapeworms?? If so, any idea how long it takes to work and how long it lasts?? (Yes, I can read the literature online, but I wanted someones first hand experience if possible). (When I adopted her from the SPCA she had fleas, the fleas are long since gone since I treated with Advantage right away---had no idea she had tapeworms!!!!)

Profender is the topical treatment, goes on like flea treatments, right?

Profender is a prescription medication, as it is dosed by weight. I recommend you talk to your vet about using it on your kitten.

Don't be tempted to buy it on-line with out a prescription. These kinds of medications when sold without a prescription may or may not be safe or effective, they may or may not even be what they say they are. It's just not worth the risk.

According to info in a quick search it can be used every 30 days. Which I think means, for your indoor kitty, one application should be enough, since if it lasts 30 days, it will kill eggs as they hatch into worms.

But your vet is really the best source of info on this medication.

Please post what you learn here!

I DID get the medication from the vet. And, as I stated, I CAN read the literature online and in the pamphlets and I DID ask the vet questions. MY QUESTION is simply if anyone else has used it on their cats for tapeworms and how soon they had results. (I am not seeking medical advice, I simply want to know what results real people have gotten).

Default used Profender

I have used it on my adult cat and actually just applied it to another adult cat. It worked well. I placed it between the shoulder baldes as instructed and had no side effects with the first cat (he is FIV +) and I just applied it to Charlie tonight so we will see.

Thanks for your input. This thread is almost a year old though.
