Default Help with catsitting

I am sitting for a deaf cat in my own apartment. He came yesterday and seemed to be warming up to me but tonight he started scratching me whenever I come near. How should I deal with this?

Hello and welcome to the forum! Let him be. Don't approach him or force yourself on him.

Change is very difficult for cats. A deaf kitty might find it even more difficult to comprehend what has happened to him. One minute he's happy and safe in his own house with his own people, and suddenly he finds himself in a strange place with some person he doesn't know.

How long will he be with you?

Just let him know you are there for him by sitting quietly where ever he has chosen to hide. Make sure he has his food and water near by and his litter box. Even though he can't hear you, talking to him may help, he will feel the vibration of your voice.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, we will be glad to make this go as easy for both of you as possible.

One caution. Watch him near your outside doors very carefully, frightened cats may dash out. Never open the door until you are sure you know where he is, and be quick, don't leave the door open, ever, not even for a second.
