Default Can you vaccinate a cat that is FIV positive? I have been told it might make them sic

Sorry to hear that your cat is FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus or Feline Aids) positive but hopefully he will lead a long healthy life like many of these cats do. With FIV positive cats, I tend to follow the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) guidelines. They do recommend these cats are kept up to date on their core vaccines - rabies depending on your local or state regulations and the distemper vaccine (FVRCP). In general, FIV positive cats, as long as they are healthy, tend to do well with the vaccines. It is recommended as well that FIV positive cats are examined at least yearly, with special attention paid to the oral cavity, eyes and lymph nodes and that a complete blood count (CBC) be done yearly to check for problems in red and white blood cells. Let us know if you have more questions about your cat or if you run into any problems.
