Patches certainly has your number! She’s doing what any self-respecting cat would do--train her human to jump (figuratively).
When she pesters you, and you respond--the response REWARDS her behavior so she’ll do it again. Feeding her, speaking to her, sitting up in bed--these all garner her the attention she wants. About the only way to extinguish these behaviors is to totally ignore the cat. Of course, that’s nearly impossible, right?
So here’s what I’d suggest. Confine Patches (with Piper) in your daughter’s or another secure room so neither can physically play trampoline on you to get your attention. Provide both cats with lots of toys and interesting things to do. You might also try playing a CD of harp music for the cats, which tends to calm them and act as a natural sedative.
Then shut the door, go to bed--and insert earplugs so you can’t hear them. Good luck!
