Hey all,

We got a new Russian Blue kitten a couple of days ago. She's just over three months old. I know Russian Blues are very sensitive to new people and new environments, so we're not surprised that she's spending most of her time hiding behind the sofa at the moment. She's coming round slowly- Today she spent ten minutes purring and letting me stroke her stomach. She still misses her mother though, and spends much of the night meowing loudly. Advice on cats in general says that the thing to do is give the kitten lots of hugs and attention. However with her breed being the sensitive things they are, is it better just to keep taking things slowly, and let her get over it in her own time? I don't want to freak her out by being to pushy with the affection, but then I don't want to give her too little if that's what she's in need of. Advice from Russian Blue veterans very welcome!

Are you sure that is a Blue Russian & not a Blue British Shorthair? They are
very similar & it is possible to make a mistake. There is one more breed that is similar: the Chartreux (from France)

Welcome!!! I am a first timer also in regard of having a cat...I guess behavior is in the breed because my baby can easily adapt to out environment and didn't in his first night...Good luck to you...

I had a russian blue cat that recently passed away. Hence my name. But yes just give him time, but remember that he also needs love. Russian blues are very affection cats. So they also need more loving then most cats. Mine, I believe could talk. He could say "now" "no" "why" "i love you" and "bye". He was a male so he loved to Tom cat around. He had been prowling the neighborhood for years, he even took our newest kitten out and around. So when he was hit by a car in front of our house i was devastated. My mother heard the accident but didn't see him untill he crawled up into our yard. Smoke was such a loyal cat that he forced himself to live long enough to pull himself onto our porch meowed a "bye" to my mother and then with because of the pride that Smoke was known for pulled himself under a chair and passed away. So you have to give your cat as much love as you can, there is no such thing as to much love, and in return your Russian Blue will return your love 100 times over. So yes he may need space but he needs love so much more. He will be loyal to you through anything and everything.

where did you put your kitten ? my kitten also russian blue has same problem i got a clock so it reminds that sound of its mother heartbeat them a hot watter bottle under or on top of its bed and go back from u got it and ask 4 a blanket where the mum slept on hoped I help.
