Default agressive Cat

I am new to the tread and I am looking for answers. Our older cat Ebony is almost 9 years old and weighs in at 16 pounds. We have done all the vet has told us to do with him loosing weight and now the Vet told us that he may just be a big cat and there isn't much we can do. She won't do medical tests on him becasue he is fine in every other aspect except his behaviour. He has his file marked as being agresive and it usually takes about 3 vet techs and the vet to control him on vet visits. At home he growls and hisses at new people especially men if they come in our house. He has been like this since we had him neuterd and de-clawed when he was a little guy. At that time we had a male vet and he wanted us to dispose of him. So we found a female vet and made the switch. She is much better with him and since we have to take him for shots and exams we deal with his attitude. But now two days ago my mom took him in for his distemper shot and an exam and he went crazy on them. The vet told my mom they might have to give him a tranqulizer to calm him down for vet visits or we might consider putting him down. She also told my mom that sometimes cats that have had tramua early in life get like this or it could be a genetic reason. He has bit my mom and sctratched her but never with me. He gets along fine with my other cat Sidney. I just don't know what to do. My mom and myself and my husband refuse to put him down so there must be something we can do.

Hi,

Don't let anyone to put him down!
Maybe he's bad tempered, but this not a valid reason to do this terrible thing, poor kit.
I think you already get used to his behaviour & whatever you will do you
won't modify it.
So please be patient & accept him as he is...

Good luck,

Oh Ebony isn't going anyplace. I have offerd to take Ebony and we deal with him and get my mom a new cat so she won't be lonley. I feel that just putting him down is an easy way out. I was so upset when my mom called me to tell me what they had said I got physically ill. I do wonder if the origional vet did something to him for him to have such a nasty disposition now.

I think vets learned to help animals & not the opposite.
Cannot believe a vet can even think to do something like this only because Ebony is bad tempered, it makes me crazy!

Then why is it that ever since Ebony made his first vist to him he has become nasty and why is it that Ebony hates men? He wasn't like that until he visited this particular vet. So yes I do belive that some vets can do things to animals maybe not intentionally. Not everyone is going to mesh with everyone that includes vets with animals.

That is just horrible!! Imagine what our society would be like if we put all the humans to sleep that are " cranky " what a horrible thing for a vet to suggest!!!
