MY cat Diesel has a major licking obsession so much so that he is pulling his fur out, i went to the vets about it and his is now on kitty prozac hehe which has helped alot, he is not pulling his fur out anymore but he is still constantly licking he is even licking while he is asleep and snoring!!! dont know how but he is!
you can see in the pic below how he had ripped his fur out!

My Jennie does that too. For a long time she just kept the fur very short and thin in that area, but then a few months ago I noticed she was starting to get sore spots.

My vet gave me an ointment called Animax. It cleared up the sores in three days and she stopped licking and the fur grew back. I used the animax for ten days as prescribed.

for while things seemed better but then she started again.

I use the animax for a day or two when I see a sore starting. When I started using feliway plug ins again, after about 6 weeks of the feliway being used she stopped licking the area and the fur started growing back really well and I was thrilled, but she's back at it again.

She also, like your Diesel, licks other things, the underside of the table when she's sleeping on the chair, cupboard doors, to name a few. I always stop her when I catch her at it.

My Meshee does it permanently. Her back side is almost hairless. Vet says
it must be an allergy but not sure what's the factor

My kitten has a licking problem, too...only he licks me. And it HURTS! He likes to do it when I'm sleeping, especially.

I do hope your kitty gets better and hopefully the kitty prozac continues to work. My friend has a chihuahua that gets bald spots, I think she makes them by licking.

I think it's an allergy of some kind...

Question Strange habbit

I just found it strange and interesting to know some do it for just temporary, while some do it continuously, even all their life time. With my Earl Blue, he has that "sucking" habit instead of licking. He sucks his own teats, and of course as you can imagine .. he gets thinning fur at that part as the result
