Customer Review: A Favored Friend
This novel is an old friend to me, one I have read and re-read. It has, in my opinion, the best first paragraph to begin a novel that I've seen. It is a joy, funny, touching, evocative of the hills in which it is set. This is a lovely book, filled with people so real you want to pick up the phone and call them. The relationship between Cat and Lilly is familiar, because it so exactly recalls everyone's history with best friends who squabble, depend on each other, argue, refuse to give in, get caught doing the wrong things, lie for each other, completely embarrass each other, and who feel real loss when one moves away, gets married, or changes in any way. This book has that feel to it, like an old friend you can trust. Cynn Chadwick is a writer of great skill and perception. You'll enjoy this book, laugh over it, maybe even sniff back a few tears. It's a treasure, a remarkable effort for a first novel, revealing a depth of feeling for character and setting that one would expect from a more seasoned author. Cynn Chadwick is the real thing.
Customer Review: Girls With Hammers -1
I had such high hopes after reading girls with hammers first but this was a real letdown. The book took forever to get going and when it did Ms Chadwick undid all of her plot work by having the main character exit stage right.
