Default Starting A Cattery?, Help, tips anything

Me and my husband want to open a cattery for this beautiful cat, Maine Coon.
There are so few Maine Coon cats in my country...
Maybe you could help us with some tips on how to get started, direct us to a catery who would sell us a breeding pair
Best age for first litter, best spaces to hold smile.gif
Any advice is usefull, we want to do this by the book!

The best advice I can give is find an established cattery that is willing to mentor you, and educate, educate, educate! Before you purchase your first cat(s), make sure you are set up for them properly... Realize the time, energy, and money that is going to have to be put into running a cattery... Learn all about queening, what to do if a situation should arise where you have to aid the queen... The list could go on and on!

A few good sites to visit that have cattery links are...
Fanciers Breeder Referral List (FBRL)
Cattery Row
KittySites.com

Best of luck to you!

I have someone guideing me from an australian cattery

Default cattery design

Try Kay Keys book Cattery Design. She is in the UK and she recommends cat fences that people would love!

Im in the US also triing to start a catery ,breeding ragdolls. I have found it to be hard. Start small! I have quickly got over my head. Before even breeding make sure you have good advertising. Also I really think you need a separate room or building for the animals. I only have 4 cats including my male and thought just being in the house would be fine but once kittens are involved you really need a room to keep them till they are fully litter trained. my website is (sidneysragdolls.com) GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I have been Breeding Maine coons for some time and have a cattery which I have had alot of help from my vet to get it set up by the rules ..space for cats heating lighting ,blood tests for every cat you own ,the right size of the housing and play area's .also being Registered .I could go on and on .before having a cattery own a couple of cats and see if this is what you really want to do .there is more to it than meets the eye but very rewarding if you can hack it ..go to my website there is some useful information on there .xxxx
