Default A question about breeds

Hi, I'm new here, I was looking on google for info on cat breeds and found this place, sorry if this is in the wrong forum

I'll explain my situation: I've always wanted a cat and my parents have said that once we move house I can get one ok, it may be a while before I get a cat but I thought I'd get a head start on looking at what type of cat would be best, the first thing i thought of was will the cat get along with our dog, she a calm dog who I think will get a long well with a cat but I dont want to get a cat which is definatly going to be scared of her. What i want to know is are there any breeds of cat which are less likely to be scared of dogs? And is there any way to find out if an individual cat will be scared? (keep in mind im more than likely to be getting a cat from a rescue centre rather than a breeder)

any help is much appreciated
thanx

I've found (I've had cats and dogs all of my life) that if you get a kitten at a young age they will get along well with dogs of any age (that is if your dog is okay with other animals). Older cats not so much. You just have to watch the kitten around the dogs until they get a little bigger because the dog can get unintentionally rough. The kitten, for sure, will be a little scared at first, but they will get used to eachother in no time.

Yeah, I've always had the same results if I get the kitten young. Also, just keep an eye on the kitten w/ the dogs until they all know each other.

Hello Bunny
I've found that Bengals get along great with other pets. Bengals are very confident, and sociable. There is a great story on my webpage (under Clients) about a kitten and their dogs. It took her only hours and she was ruling the roost--sorta say! Like what everyone else has told you, as long as you socialize them correctly a new kitten of what ever breed you choose will do just fine.
Hope you find your perfect Breed!! good luck!

Laurie
