just shop around you local shelter.. Look for a full grown cat with a smaller stature.Rescuing animals is the way to go, you Will also have the opportunity to meet the cat prior to taking it.

Well, you never get exactly what you expect in a cat. But I have had great experiences with tabbies. Beautiful cats, generally lead long, happy lives. In fact, the first tabby that owned me pasted away at 23 YEARS OLD. And what's more, she was very health up until the end. And the most recent tabby that owned me is still alive and kicking at 19 years old. Just remember; cats are in charge. You don't really choose the cat, it chooses you. And that's the truth...Regards, Siekuto.

I agree with going to a shelter. I picked up a 2-year-old persian mix (short/medium hair) and she hasn't gotten larger than 8 pounds. -- my former 20-pound monsters -- a DL hair and a Birman (both from the shelter as well) make her look like a sour-faced kitten .Seriously, if you get an adult from there, you'll already know what size they'll be. And you WILL be saving a life!!!Think of the positives.

Abyssinians usually stay under 10 lbs. They have short hair though. But they have such lovely coat colors--if you must have a purebred cat.

It can be hard to pick a type of cat as a pet. If you want a specific breed or pedigree look in a book on cats and read up on the different breeds. You may find one you like. But the best bet is to go to your local pound and adopt a cat or kitten. There are many to choose from that need good homes. That and you will save one from being put to sleep.

Do you like Somalis. They are the semi-longhaired cousins of the Abyssinian. In my experience they are very affectionate playfull and chatty cats. Mine has a very soft meow, she chirrups to me almost as if she is talking.
Another hint...females are usually smaller than male cats. The smallest breed of cat is the Singapura this is a shorthaired breed.
