Default cat bath?

What is the proper way of bathing a cat? I had a cat since I was small but my mom is really in charge of everything it does. hygiene and everything. I am studying so I don't see her doing this stuff often. Now I would like to own a cat in my own house, and I am not sure what to do.

Hello, I know this is a bit behind for a reply, but I haven't been on here for awhile. In case no one has yet answered you yet, I will try to help. I show cats in the CFA and so have to bathe my cats quite often. Rule number one is during the entire time you are doing the bath, talk to your kitty softly and use gentle strokes to cleanse him/her. This will make the kitty feel secure and feel that you will protect it from harm. First feel the sink (a rubber mat in the bottom, so kitty won't slip or get foot caught) with warm water (and a pitcher for rinsing) and then SLOWLY put the kitty in the water stoking him/her and talk to him/her in a gentle tone. Once kitty is all wet then put a little shampoo on and gently lather it up, then just briefly put kitty back down in the water for an simple rinse, then rinse the kitty with a pitcher of clean warm water. This next part is just something I like to do.....wrap kitty up in a clean towel and and just cuddle the kitty for about 10 minutes. This helps the kitty feel comforted and lets the towel soak up the excess water.
I hope this helps.

I usually just use the waterless bath solutions. They work just as well & they don't put the stress on you or your cat that a regular bath does. Maybe this will help.

Question Bathing a cat??

My daughter bathes her cat. The cat has really dry skin so I don't think the baths are helping. I would think they would dry the skin more. Poor baby scratches all the time. Hair comes out in wads. I know a woman who had a white cat, pure white with long hair. She bathed it regularly once a weekm and I think she still does. Her cat seems quite healthy. I have enough trouble bathing the dog. I really can't imagine fighting a cat to wash it and getting scratched like crazy.
