Speaking of declawing---I received a calendar from the Paralyzed Veterans of America, and on the front of the calendar was this beautiful tabby DECLAWED kitty laying on its back with its declawed paws up in the air, and I was so mad. I wrote to the Paralyzed Veterans and told them how horrible to send a picture of a cat with its toes amputated. And I said "Furthermore, you of all people should understand what it is like to have limbs amputated because of war injuries, so why would you condone this inhumane treatment of cat?" I probably wn't get an answer, but at least I vented.

I kinda hope you do get an answer lol.. I want to see how they "attempt" to rationalize it... Cuz they probably will.

I only found out about how horrible it is about a year ago when someone at work said it was barbaric. This guy usually has weird ideas and I at first I just thought it was another one of his weird ideas. I figured if I got cats and they scratched up stuff, it would be no big deal to declaw them since they would be indoor cats anyway. Well, luckily I found out the truth BEFORE getting the cats. Alot of people are not aware of what it realy is. And you're right, the vets don't tell you because of greed.

Barbaric is the perfect word to describe it. I'm sure your cats are glad you found out before hand too

To AuntKitty, did they ever reply?

As for spay/neuter, there's so many benefits. Testicular cancer for males, and some form of cancer for females, which is why they like you to spay/neuter them before they reach a year old (and before a female has their first litter). I absolutely love the TNR program, and I think it's really sad that it cannot be incorporated on a country-wide scale. I have 7 cats and all are spayed/neutered. I wish there was even a day on the calender (holiday) where spay/neuter could be free just that day even. My previous house was right by a park where lots of strays run around, and sadly my vet had said that he tried to make a deal with the local shelter that he would spay/neuter to help the situation and they turned him down. Terrible.

I am definitely pro-spay or -neuter. There are just too many cats that can't have good homes and are in shelters and eventually euthanized. I, fortunately, volunteer at a no-kill shelter but even some of those cats have been there 1-2 years. I am trying my best to help---I have 17 cats of my own including 3 special needs kittens(neurological disorder with balance and coordination problems), plus I am fostering a momma cat and her 3 babies(all four need homes). All my cats are neutered or spayed. They are also in-door only cats. Love them all!!!!!

No, the Paralyzed Veterans never replied to my e-mail. But that doesn't stop them from still sending me requests for donations several times a year.
