cats and foxes
Hello all, new to the forum, but need some opinions. Have any of you ever had a fox attack one of your cats? I have done a lot of online reseach on this, and it seems that a moderate majority of opinion is that a fox will not attack a cat.
The reason I ask is because our Prissy, our oldest cat, 20 years old, went out Monday evening without our knowledge at about 7:00. A little while later, we heard some foxes yelping down across the creek that runs across our property. It's not unusual to hear them, and as far as I know they have never crossed the creek into our yard, or have bothered any of our cats. Prissy walked well, but probably could not run much or climb.
She had been an indoor/outdoor cat all of her life and she never ran off for any period of time, and she would always come when we called her.
She was in pretty good health for a cat her age, but looking back on the days before she disappeared, she seemed more lethargic, and she got quiet where she had always been very vocal.
After we searched the house, we went outside and searched and called till midnight with no luck. We spent the entire next day combing the yard and the surrounding woods and saw no sign of her. In our dispare we assumed that a medical problem had occured very quickly, which would not be that uncommon in a cat that age, and she had sensed the end was near, and she had gone out to hide herself until it was over.
But after a thorough search, and I mean thorough, and not finding her, I am beginning to think that the foxes took her. We pray that this is not the case.
It would bring my wife and I great comfort to know that Prissy died a peaceful death in a place of her choosing, and not in the jaws of a fox.
Please pardon this very long post, but we are very distraught and very afraid for the fate of our Prissy. Thank you all. Milton.
