Put her in one room alone, door closed, with a piece of clothes that you wore yesterday. This will get her used to your smell. Also, in a few hours open the door a crack and let her come out when ready. Just leave her alone and let her walk around the house. She'll come to you when ready.

well man as a new cat owner my self i found that the best thing to do is set out the food and water and the litterbox and then leave the house or apartment for an hour or so. this will let the cat explore the area and beacome comfortable.

Ok, first of all, set her done in a small room, perferably a bathroom or a small bedroom. Put her litterbox, a bowl of food and a dish of water with her. Then, close the door to the room and let her get to know her new surroundings. After an hour, introduce her to another part of your home. keep doing this until she has seen your whole house, everytime letting her go back to food & water. After a few days, she should be settled in.

Just let her explore the first few days, don't overwhelm her with lots of toys. Offer plenty of affection, fresh water and if you know what cat food she was used to, let her stay on that brand for now. Put her litter box someplace convenient, take her to it a few times so she's sure to find it when she needs it (you might even place a second one in another room in case the door is shut to the first room).

Just let her wander around the house and get her bearings. My cat did this when we bought her back from the cat rescue centre)
