Ok well, for a start, keep your cat indoors for at least a full 7 days. That way, she will have adapted to the idea that she lives there, and she will have a keen sense of the daily odors. Dont leave him/her alone for long hours because the cat could end up damaging itself and/or the house (the cat may get frightened if alone at first). If it had any toys, or blanket that it slept on when you got him/her, ask if you could have it to bring home with you (it is easier for the cat to adjust to new surroundings if it has a familiar item to sleep or be with).
