Default Moving country cats to the city

Our 5 cats were born and raised in the country and they range in age from 11-13 years. We are currently renting and the owner has sold the house so we have to move. My husband works in the small city near our current home and I am starting school this Fall in the same city. For financial reasons we have to move closer to work and school. My question is: Can five country cats adjust to life in the city? I am concerned that they will get lost and confused by cars and people and other cats and I have heard stories of people detesting cats and poisoning them etc. Of course all these thoughts are swirling in my head and I am very worried about them. Three of the cats stick close to home and don't wander far but two of them are wanderers and sometimes are away for a day or two before they decide to come home. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Any house move can be stressfull to your cats whatever the destination. They are creatures of habit and tend to roam their own territories. Unfotunatly when you move home they are in another cats territory and need to establish thier own again.
Are your cats neutered as neutered cats tend not to wander too far although there is always the odd exception to the rule lol.
If you are really worried you could ask about building a secure run or garden so that your cats can enjoy outdoors but cannot get out of your garden. They will be safe from cars and people and dogs then.
I hope all goes well for your move and remember not to let them out for a week or two after your move as they must feel safe and secure in thier new home first.
