Default hair loss after pregnancy

Puss Puss has had 7 kittens, 5 weeks ago, 1 little 1 died at 2 weeks. Anway, I have noticed that her hair is thinning out and becoming patchy. Is this a common thing after birth, like in humans for the hair to fall out?? I have noticed that all on her underside her hair has been rubbed off from feeding the kittens, but her ears are very thinned out. She is a himalyan cross, so it is obvious that her hair is thinning and not as lustrous as prior to birht. Any ideas??

Hi ,Im a breeder of Maine coons ..you will find that the hair on the mums belly will all come out as the babies need to get near to her teats which she will usually pull that out herself with heavy grooming .but never heard of the ears thinning out ..dont worry for now but if it get worse over the next week or so call the vet and see what they have to say ..Chris xxxx

It is almost 14 weeks since Puss Puss had her little kitties, all whom grew to be so beautiful, and finally she is looking nice and healthy again. Her coat has a brilliant shine again and all the patchiness has gone, the baldness near her ears is gone, so I am confident to say that it was all the kittens, 7 in all, feeding off her constantly that caused her hair to fall out, and why not, I know mine did after giving birth.
