Welcome!

I'm glad to see you're getting help for your kitties. They are very lucky to have a mommy like you.

I hope Angel recovers quickly.

Best regards,

Susie

Oh okay..thanks so much for the advice..
Angel is feeling much better now..
In fact, he's much more active than Wagner is now.. :D
He now initiates playtime more often..
They'll have their anti-rabies shots tomorrow..
And then their 3+1 shots a few weeks after..
I'm still looking for a vet that conducts the FLV/FIV tests..so i'm still keeping my fingers crossed..
I do have a question though..
Their poop smells really bad now..
I thought it was only because of the antibiotics but I figured it could maybe something more..
Is there anyway I could minimize it..?..
When I wake up, the apartment stinks to high heaven..:(

Thanks for the update! It seems Angel is responding to the antibiotics, maybe it was just the URI making him feel so low after all, that's great news!

Okay so first rabies now, the distemper (what you call 3-1) in a few weeks. I agree with separating the shots. Sometimes these vaccinations can make a kitty feel kind of sick for a day or two.

Since these are first shots for these babies, they will need boosters in 30 days, then can go the year or three years (depending on the type of shot your vet uses) for rabies, and three years for distemper.

Poop by nature is smelly <s>. Angel and Wagner are still adjusting to their new healthy diet, and the stress. So it may get a little better.

A couple questions to help rule out possible problems that could cause extra foul poop.

Have they been tested for parasites and treated, and ruled parasite free?

Are they flea free now?

What are you feeding them, by the way?

I just checked..And Angel has some soft stools again..:(
They were already nice and firm (albeit, quite stinky) for a few days and now they're back to an almost liquid consistency..
I don't know what's happening..
Will insist that the vet conduct giardia/coccidia tests..
He hasn't really conducted any tests yet..Whether for parasites or some other..
Is it something offered by the vet or should I ask for it myself..?..
They're getting Felidae canned and dry and Tiki Cat once a week..
Unfortunately, I caught them munching on a fried chicken and fried eggs this morning..
I went to my room and when I decided to go to the kitchen, the two were on top of the dining table munching away..
Teaching them to stay off the dining table is also a bone of contention for us..*sigh*..
Could that have something to do with the relapse..?..
Thanks..

the antibiotic can cause soft stool, even with the probiotic. Don't lose hope. coping with an ill furbaby is a highly stressful rollercoaster.

Yes, go ahead and ask your vet for the tests you want done. I don't know why vet hasn't suggested testing for parasite, parasites can be a real drain on the body. You should always feel free to ask quesitons of your vet. If you do not feel comfortable doing that, it's time to look for a new vet..if you have that option, at least.

yes, fried food could cause diahrrea in a kitty, and would be likely to "go right through" him, so it could be that.

Get a couple of spray bottles and fill them with water. Be sure the sprayers shoot a long stream. When you catch the kittens on the table give them a squirt (to the body, not face) they will eventually learn that getting on the table makes them get squirted and stop doing it (at least while you are home anyway<ggg>)

(don't re use spray bottles that contained cleaners. get new ones)

Keep on keeping on! And we're here to help you anyway we can.

<in edit> Is the food kitten food? They need the nutrients and calories kitten food offers until they are a year old.

Oh I see..
I'll definitely go to the vet and talk to him about the tests..
And I'll make sure that they don't ever get anything fried again..;)

I tried the masking tape awhile back and it worked..
They hop on the table only when they're really hungry..
So I time their meals now..
I dish out their food a few minutes before we (humans) eat..
Since they fall asleep after eating, we didn't have any trouble..
But no regardless of whether they're full or not, they'll jump on the dining table anyway..
Especially when there are some leftovers that we cannot put anywhere else..
I'll try the water bottle thingie but how can I ensure that the kittens won't try to jump on the table when I'm not there..?..

Felidae is formulated for all life stages, kitten or adult..
Should I change it..?..

If Angel has diahrrea, you can boil some rice & give him the liquid
(when cold only) many times. This may help in the meantime
