Default Half a uterus?

My cat, Sassy, she just got back from the vet a few hours ago after getting spayed. The vet just called and told us she had half a uterus. She gave birth like, 4-6 seperate times, she's about 6-7 years old. The vet said they never seen that before. So could be this dangerous or a bad thing in any way?

Question

Did you ask the vet if dangerous?

I would think, now that she is spayed (uterus removed) it would not be a problem.

or are you saying they LEFT half the uterus in her? If that is the case, then yes, that is dangerous as it means she is still susceptible to pyometra, which is a very serious (often fatal) infection of the uterus.

I recommend you call your vet back and ask exactly what he meant, and what he intends to do about it, if he did indeed, leave some of the organ inside your cat.

Welcome to the forum, and please do come back and let us know what you find out.

Cool Half a uterus

I think what the vet would say : "We just found out your cat had only half a uterus when we cut open her belly, so we could do nothing but remove that half, and we were so surprised that we've never seen such a cat who had given birth 4 - 6 times with only half a uterus !" I think she is fine, but as suggested by Acer, confirm with your vet her well-being, probably she needs a thorough health exam... as I did to my cats.
