Default Eye problem

Please help! Woke up to find that my cat won't open his eye. It looks red and painful and there is clear fluid running from the eye. What should I do? Thanks!

Hi welcome !
Sounds like an irritation... don't know if it's an infection (maybe caused by scratching, dust, allergy....).

Nobody here can tell from the symptom you describe. Must be seen by a vet, ASAP ! Don't delay ! Better safe than sorry ! And please keep us updated.

Meanwhile, just to sooth the affected eye, I recently heard that you can use tea, yes the tea we drink, to gently wash it using soft wipe cloth.

I have your kitty in my thoughts and prayers. What's his name BTW ? And yours too ?

Thanks to you both, I appreciate your help and advice! Today is a public holiday in northern Ireland so we can't bring scoobie to the vets but I will bathe it in cold tea and monitor. We will get him to the vet tomorrow. He is eating and grooming so I don't think he is in pain. Will keep you updated. Thanks so much

Great Suzanne, you're taking Scoobie to the vet (first thing) tomorrow !

Tea has a product in it called tannins which are anti-inflammatory, and have antimicrobial properties. Brew a strong cup of black tea and apply 3-4 drops to the affected eye.

Pray for the best !

Quick update- the eye is open and looking a lot better. I have bathed it in cold tea. So far so good. And scoobie is eating and playing and grooming so that's also a good sign.but if it is not 100 percent better by tomorrow he will go to the vet.
