Default Overweight Kitten?

Hey all,
I'm new here and looking for some advice. I took in a stray kitten last July, and the vet estimated that she was born around the beginning of April (So about 8 months old now). Everywhere I took her, people would say that she was very petite for her age, and she seemed to eat very little food (Innova EVO cat & kitten).

Well, I got her spayed in the beginning of August, and we moved in the beginning of September back to my mom's--and all the sudden, she started eating. Like, a lot. And she's the kind that meows at you if her bowl is empty. Also, she bullies my mom into giving her several Greenies treats a day. Even though she is VERY active (constantly running around with her toys or with my sister's little dog), she's started to get a bit chubby. Basically, she's doubled her weight from 4 to 8 lbs in the last three months. My sister took her to her vet tech class for a demonstration, and the teacher confirmed that she was overweight. Is this a problem? Should we cut back her food (currently free-feeding)? To how much?

Any ideas would be much appreciated!
