Question My cat is coughing

My 7 month-old male furbaby, Midnight sometimes coughs about 10-20 times in a row and then is fine for a couple of weeks. It almost seems as though he is choking, but it sounds more like a barking cough like when a child gets croup cough. He is otherwise fine, eats well, drinks a good amount of water, plays and is very sweet and loveable. But when he gets that cough it scares me. Could it be asma?

Another member on here has a cat with asthma, Chooch, she posted a thread a while back about it.
Have you had a chance to speak to a vet?
Are you sure he's not trying to cough up a fur ball? One of my cats always tries to try and keep them down and coughs while she's doing it.

Hi and thank you. I called the vet even though it is Sunday and I did not know if anyone would answer the phone, and they did. I made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. I will let you know what happened. This is such a great forum!!!! Thanks again

Hi--I took Midnight to the vet and he got checked out from head to toe, and thankfully, everything seems to be fine. Midnight was down the dusty-musty basement that day, and the vet said that he could have ingested some dust and coughing is that cat's way of trying to expell a foreign substance. I have kept the basement door closed all week so my cat's can't get down there, and so far no more coughing. Thanks for asking.
