Unhappy Is it an itch?

My new Maine Coon, Frosty, is constantly licking or digging at his long hair, leaving tufts of hair all over the house. This is the "rescue" cat I mentioned in another thread that we made a member of our family. His diet is Whiskas and Friskies dry food mixed, any time of day. He had a body cleaning at the vets about a month ago after being on the stray since birth. He's about 5. Is there an over-the-counter product we might try, rather than another vet bill? He almost broke us bringing him back to a normal life.

I would recommend trying to find out the exact problem/reason for his itch before using any products. Try to inspect his skin, etc. Look for markings, rash, bites, anything. Then consult remedies with the results.

If no visible cause for his irritation is found, perhaps the cat's behavior isn't phsical. It could be anxiety, nerves, etc.
