Default Help

Hello to all forum members. This is my first post. My cat, Lisa, is 5 years old. Always been healthy and happy. Always ate her food, begged when she wanted to be feed. Now she has stopped eating completely. Took her to the vet. Examination, blood tests and X-rays showed nothing. Until this evening she was actually still active. Now she just sits. She has gone from 10.5 pound to 6.8 pounds. Have tried everything I can think of (and a lot of stuff I have read). Now she is neither drinking or eating and the vet can't find a thing 'wrong' with her. I believe she is starving herself to death and I don't know what to do to help her. Tried tuna, sardines - read on a cat site that that may get them back to eating. Did not work. Bought cat milk. Different kinds of food, solid and wet. Am sad. Anyone ever had this problem?

I am very sorry to hear your beloved Lisa is so ill without a trace of why.

Ultrasound is probably the next step.

I recommend you take her to a different vet for a second opinion. Or ask your vet for a referral to an veterinary internal medicine specialist.

Welcome to the forum, please keep us posted on Lisa.

Today is the best day we have had in two weeks. I tried a different wet food this morning and Lisa ate about two tablespoons full and drank some cat milk. I also bought her some baby food and she ate about a teaspoon full. This is the most she has eaten in one day in what, seems to me, to be a very long time. So, today I am hopeful. I live in a small town in the North of Sweden and, unfortunately, we have only one vet. That is another reason I get so worried. We would have to travel so far for a second opinion. Lisa's nose is wet and cold, her ears are cold, her eyes clear and bright. But, the weight lose has me very concered. Like said, today she is eating. Am hoping that the worst is over. We leave on vacation at the end of next month and will be away for 3 months. Want her in good shape before we leave.
Thanks again.

I have never heard of it, but if a cat doesn't eat or drink, they can die real quick. Take your beloved pet to a DIFFERENT vet RIGHT AWAY. This is an EMERGENCY SITUATION!!! There is DEFINITELY something wrong and for a vet just to say there is nothing wrong and leave it at that he or she should lose their license!!!! Please for the sake of your baby go iiimmediately to a different vet. Do you have any friends or family that has cats that could recommend a vet? Keep us posted.

Througout this whole episode, Lisa never 'looked' sick. I started to baby her. Hand feed her. She gradually started to eat from my hand. Bought her some cat milk and the same thing - I poured some in my hand and she licked it up. Yesterday, she started to eat a little again. Today she made poop and it was normal. I have no idea what happend to her. If things had not changed over the weekend, then we would have driven to another town to another vet. I am still monitoring her carefully, and if things do not continue to improve, we will have to go with plan 2, another vet. I am just hoping things continue as they are. Been checking her weight, which had been dropping, but that has stabilized, too. She actually gained a little. This has been a scary mystery and because of where we live, getting to another vet is just not an easy thing to do. But, I think we are out of the woods. Thanks

Thank you for the update! I'm so glad Lisa is doing better. My Tolly likes to be hand fed too when he is not feeling well.

Is it possible that Lisa got into something toxic? Of course, if the blood work didn't show any sign of toxicity....

What tests were performed on the blood, do you know?
