Default cat nose crust??

I might get a cat from a friend, it was "dropped off" a few weeks ago. It seems pretty healthy aside from ear mites and it has a crust spot on its fur just under it's nose....It didn't seem like a super runny nose but the nose seemed more then just moist. Is taking the cat asking for trouble? thanks!

Hello and welcome! The real question is, are you willing to go the distance with a cat who may have health issues?

Most likely they are things easily dealt with, ear mites for example can be eliminated and prevented. However if the ear mite infestation goes on for too long the cat could have long term (chronic) ear problems.

The crusty nose is an indication of an upper respiratory infection (URI). Again, it may be an easy cure with antibiotics. However kitty may have other underlying health problems. There's no way to know for sure until you take her/him (?) to the vet.

Kitty will need to be tested for FeLV/FIV and vaccinated (if s/he is healthy enough) also.

I hope you or your friend, either one, will do the right thing by this poor abandoned kitty and get her/him the health care s/he needs without delay.

It was good of your friend to care enough to take kitty in. But if your friend or you, either one, can't get kitty to the vet, please take the cat to a shelter where s/he can get the treatment s/he needs.
