Default wholesome cat food on a budget?

Hi!

Since recovering from the effects of the economic fall, my husband and I now have the means go get our cat, Abby, off the crap food he (yes, he) has been eating. We're not looking to move him onto something extremely expensive like Wellness or Science Diet, just something that doesn't have ground corn as the main ingredient and preferably no by-product meal. I feel like the food he's currently eating has no substance, which it probably doesn't. He clears his bowl, and only a few hours later is whining for more food. We've recently switched our dog over to Authority from her crappy Pedigree and have noticed such a difference in her coat, eyes and general demeanor. I know Authority also makes cat food as well, I was just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions as far as a slightly inexpensive-moderately priced cat food that'll be more satisfying for our little guy? Thanks!

Authority is an okay brand, from what I have heard. But do feed Abby the canned foods, not the dry.
