Smile Newbie diet help please.

Hello everyone,
I have 2 cats. Exxon and Lola. Exxon was recently given med covenia which threw him into transient diabetes for a week. (allergic reaction)
Since then I have been feeding both of my cats Fancy Feast Classic Pate.

Exxon stools are solid and well formed. Lola's are what I would call " soft serve" any recommendations on low carb canned foods I could switch to to help Lola that won't break the bank?

Thanks so much. Steve

You can add a probiotic to both cats' diets, that will help with the soft stools, and improve the health and digestion of both.

Sorry to hear about the convenia. I hate that stuff!

Ever thought of feeding them a raw diet?

Thumbs up Convenia & Probiotics

Thanks for the Reply.
Let me tell you real quick about Convenia. My cats was sneezing a lot so i took him to the vet. She gabe him a shot of it. Over the next 2 days I thought he was going to die. Shallow breathing, drooling over the place, etc. I did research on the med and found out some cats have a severe allergic reaction to it. I rushed him back and told her what I discovered.

She replied, I have used Convenia on hundreds of animals and have never seen a bad reaction. She then said, Looksd to me like he's haveing an allergic reaction to a spider bite. There were no visible signs of a bite on my cat anywhere. It through him into diabtetes and he had to be hospitalized for a week. Grrrrrrrrr.....

What probiotics would you suggest. I would like to give that I try. Thank you.

What an arrogant so and so! I would first and foremost find a new vet immediately. Apparently this vet has "never seen a reaction" to convenia used in cats because she denies all reports of those reactions.

Here is some good information on probiotics:

You don't have to be a raw feeder, or have an IBD cat to benefit from this website.

Probiotics for Cats - Why and Which Ones - Raw Feeding for IBD Cats

Generally speaking you could start with Proviable DC, a probiotic made for animals, but you might want to take some time to read the link.

https://smile.amazon.com/Proviable-D...ats+-+80+count

Another easy choice would be Natural Factors Double Strength.

https://smile.amazon.com/Natural-Fac...ors+probiotics

I use both of these brands for my cats. Two take the natural Factors, and my IBD girl takes the proviable DC.

I have a friend whose cat eats the Fancy Feast classics and her little girl was having loose stools and diarrhea. I sent her a bottle of the Natural Factors and it cleared things up for her cat, and she's kept her on it permanently.

Start with half a capsule a day, work up to a whole capsule half in a morning meal and half in an evening meal.

PS I meant to ask, how are Exxon and Lola doing?

Default Update on Lola

Hey everyone. I have had Lola on provable DC one pill a day for about two weeks now. Still has soft stools. Any other ideas?

She may need more than the proviable can offer.

I would recommend you visit this web page:

Raw Feeding for IBD Cats - Home

They also have a facebook group for realtime help.

You don't have to be a raw feeder to get help from this page. But you may decide to switch when you discover how much a fresh food diet can help Lola (and Exxon, too)
