Default Please help. Cat Won't Eat, Lethargic, And Has Hard Stomach (not My Cat)

Hi there,

This is not my cat, this is my sister's friend's cat (Tim) who has been asking me for advice as he knows I love cats. Of course I said she needs to see a vet asap. Tim brought her to the vet but they told him that he can either pay $1200+ for them to run tests on her or he can pay to put her to sleep. He doesn't have that kind of money but isn't willing to put her to sleep.

They said X-Rays would be $250 per picture and they may need to take 5 pictures. Does anyone know if it would really be necessary to take 5 pictures? What I am trying to figure out is if he is going to hear the same thing from a different vet or if they were maybe trying to just talk him into paying a large amount of money? As soon as they open I am going to call different vet that I have dealt with in the past (I moved from Canada to US so I don't deal with CA vet anymore) and figure out what they can do for her and at what cost, but it is worrying me a lot and I would really appreciate any insight!

Her symptoms are: fatigue, hiding under couch, hard stomach, not eating, drinking very little, she is "not walking right" and she has not pooped for several days. Vet said she has a low internal temperature and is dehydrated

Thanks so much!

Have they tried a kitty laxative? I think they should go to a vet but should try giving her a dose of laxative as as possible. It sounds like she has bad constipation.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's friend's cat. I haven't experienced that with my cat before. If you'll go to another vet and same diagnosis is given, then maybe it is really necessary for the cat to undergo those tests.
