Default Do you have a cat that pulls their hair out??

My mom and dads female cat has a habit of pulling her fur out. They have gone to the vet and gotten a hormone replacement med for her but they can only give it so often because it is hard on their kidneys. Well doing some further online research it suggested to give them Barley Grass also known as happy kitty. Do any of you have any experience with this?? Do you know if Barley grass works??

Default Cat Pulling Hair Out

I once owned a cat who pulled so much of her hair out, she had a naked belly and naked hind legs. My vet back then tried putting her on valium because he said it was stress-induced. All that happened was that I had a doped up cat that continue with the hair pulling.

I now own three, one of which just started with the hair pull last year. I took him to my vet (different vet) who is a cat-only vet (she's great!). She seems to think it is an allergic reaction. I allow my indoor cats on my screened porch when I am home, and she said it could be anything from pollen to fleas to a cleaning product. It also doesn't have to be a new exposure - the allergy could have developed over time. She gave him a steroid shot which really helped, but be careful because they can cause problems, too. Also use flea medicine because they too can cause the problem.

PJc is on a distinguished road

I also have a cat who at 10 years old suddenly started pulling out all his hair. He licks it until at becomes a mat and then pulls it out. The whole process takes maybe 10 minutes. Initially I thought that it might be because I was having a medical problem that my family wasn't handling well and he picked at on the stress. Or it was because he had to come live with me when his previous owner had medical problems. Anyway, it has been 3 weeks and I'm fine now, but he is continuing to pull out his hair. Is this a common issue? What is the normal treatment.,
