HooversMom is on a distinguished road
Default New amputee needs help adjusting and coping psychologically

Hoover, a 15 year old neutered male broke his right front leg at the humerus last Friday night jumping down off of a fence. We had the leg amputated Saturday. I brought him home last night. His mother was feral and he is very skittish around people, and does not take well to medical treatment. He prefers to be outdoors, but now he is under "house arrest", and not liking it. He is obviously very upset now, and his brother's reaction to his distress confirms it. We have provided a litter box, but he has never used one, and hasn't needed one. So far he has relieved himself on the mat next to the toilet in the bathroom, which is fine with me. Does anyone out there have any tips on dealing with a cat who is not used to being confined, and/or has just had an amputation? Any advice will be appreciated.
