Default when did you spay your cat? what age

Hi,
I have a question-kind of a census.
At what age did you spay your kitty?
A.C. will be 5 months old in 2 weeks(16th of Oct.)
The vet's office said I could wait till she was 6 months old- She still seems so small!
While at an adopta thon fund raiser, I asked a local shelter(they do reduced $$ spays) and they said they will neuter ALL dogs and cat prior to adoption(so as early as 8 weeks!)
I understand their worry that people won't follow through but especially in male cats the risk of getting blocked?!
I'll wait until her 6 month but not sure if we'll have the shelter spay her or our vets(whom we credit for saving A.C.'s little life when we found her) but it would be over 200.00 vs 55.00 from the shelter.
I suspect we will need to board our animals in Nov. (we're putting out house up for sale and will have an open house)
and i thought of doing the spay when boarding for those 2 days.

Kittens destined for pet homes get neutered before they leave my home at 12 weeks, so they are typically 10 weeks at the time of neutering.
Waiting with neutering till the kitten in 6 months or otler is not necessary. Your vet should get updated.

Are kittens placed in new homes at 8 weeks where you live? I am very sorry to hear that - they should stay with their mother and siblings till they are at least 12 weeks old.

Default new homes for kittens- was spauying

I've seen kittens from shelters that are small- look like 8-10 weeks old- no more than that.
We found A.C. at about 5 weeks old so she at least didn't turn ferral

I got my two from a shelter as well and they were already fixed at 8 weeks old. My Murphy was found in the wild, while Fancy was dropped off by someone.

The reading material that was supplied to me by them stated that kittens may be spayed or neutured by 6 weeks of age. When you get the procedure done, may I also suggest that you consider having your kitten microchipped.

Default cat spay

A.C. is microchipped- most of my animals including parrots are "chipped"

A.C. has an appointment in November for her "surgery"
