Unhappy Unanswered: Fur question

Hi,
I am really upset today, because I took my cat to the vet because he had an infected claw. He did have some pretty severe matting under his chest and neck area. I told them to shave the mats out and they wound up shaving him all over except his tail, head and legs..........I guess it's called a "lion" cut. My question is, does anyone know when his fur will start to grow back in? I was in complete shock, and am still really upset. He look so different and sad...I have read where they can be more comfortable in the heat of the summer, and we live in NC where it gets extremely hot in the summer. Any words of encouragement or experience with this may help how I am feeling today.
Thank you

Hello, I'm sorry you have had such a distressing time - I'm sure you are feeling far worse than he is. Don't worry, his fur will start to grow back pretty quickly - it depends whether he is long or shorthaired how soon he will be back to normal. My Sasha has just had an op a month ago and her fur is growing back nicely where she was shaved but she is a longhaired maine coon so it will be a few months before it grows back completely

Thanks for the kind encouraging words. Harley seems to be doing nicely. He's as happy as ever, just looks odd to our family! He is 16 and we have always been used to seeing him with his beautiful long coat of white fur! I think you are right, we are probably worse off than he is. He's just happy to be a 16 year old cat!
Thanks again,

No worries. I had a long hair tabby Jasmine years ago that had a gorgous plume of a tail and it seemed overnight that it went almost bald. She was allergic to the bites from fleas and would need a steroid shot at least once a season. It seemed that within about a week her fur would start coming back again and didn't take too long. I understand though how stressful it is to see them not looking the way we are used to.

No worries My sister and her husband shave their Maine Coon every summer (we live in Louisiana) and she loves it. She lies under the ceiling fans on her back with her paws stretched out in every direction. She tends to look absolutely ridiculous for a week, then things start to get better. After a month, she just looks like a short-haired, slightly fluffy tabby.
