Default Unanswered: HELP! Kitten peeing outside of box!

We got our kitten about 5 weeks ago, he was 10 weeks old at the time. He used the litterbox fine the first week he was here. He then had some peeing problems and we got him tested at the vet for a UTI that was clear. Then we did not see him pee outside the box for 2 weeks but in the last 24 hours he has gone twice. We have 2 cats and 3 boxes which are scooped daily (sometimes twice). We had to get rid of a cat before from peeing and it breaks my heart to think of getting rid of him too. We used enzyme cleaners where our other cat had peed and he's peeing on things that were not here when we had her so it's not that he is smelling her pee. We don't know what to do anymore! PLEASE HELP!

We use bleach when cleaning the boxes and dry them well before refilling. We do this probably every 1-2 weeks. His food is not near the boxes.

He pees right in front of us sometimes. I put him in the box right after and had been placing him in the box occasionally throughout the time I'm home.

He is a Bengal so he is smart. We are unsure of whether or not toilet training him may be helpful or if it would make things worse but were exploring this as an option.

We are desperate to try anything. He is such a good cat other then this, very social and playful.

He is not neutered yet but he is not 4 months old even...would getting that done now make a difference? He is clearly squatting though so I don't think he's marking.

Having him neutered now may make a difference, but I cannot guarantee anything. I would try as sallygriff said and maybe try a different brand or style of litter for his box, as he may not like the feel of what he has right now. Cats can be really picky

Default we had a similar problem

when we got our 2 boys we had a similar issue, one was peeing on inappropriate things and we did manage to break the habit but it wasn't easy.

first thing we did was change the litter, turns out he likes the soft clumping kind, it helped but it didn't fix everything. what really worked was crate training him like a dog. i had a large cage from the rescue work that i do, only big enough to fit the litter pan and give him room to sleep and have his food bowls. he had NO CHOICE but to use the box, and every time he did we praised him and gave him treats. he was allowed out for socializing and exercise but was supervised at all times. if he looked like he was thinking about doing something naughty he went right back in the cage. it took three weeks but it worked.

next thing we did was remove "tempting" items like plastic bags on the floor, or piles of laundry, things that looked like they might be nice to pee on. it's been 6 months since we did his training and he has been very good since, fingers crossed he will stay that way.

good luck!
