Default My rescued cat has health problems with her ears, she has been to the vet 10...

...times no vet knows what it is.? When I got her, her ears where black, and looked like mushrooms growing inside. The vets scope would barely fit in her ears. Since I have had her I have tried different meds from the vet....some helped for a while, but it always comes back..they bother her sooo much she scratches them open and they bleed........and she shakes her head very frequently.she has good and bad days...she is an older cat....I curently use surlan from the vet when it gets really bad, but I want to find something to solve the problem. I have changed all four of my cats to a raw meat and bone diet....that improved her ears to a point but still has not solved the problem.please help and give me any suggestions or share similar stories. All I want is to releive her discomfort..thank you for your input...

has the vet checked her ears for ear mites? they sometimes cause these types of problems. It can be solved with a solvent provided by the vet.

ooooh poor cat! my sister's kitten has a similar problem. she took her to the vet who prescribed her an ointment, but the infection travels from one ear to the other and has not gone away completely. she shakes her head and tries scratching too and we feel so sorry for her. hope your cat gets better too. xx

If the vet has tried 10 times to get this sorted I think you should get a second opinion from another vet or go to a completely different vet company and start from the beginning. You should make sure they do something else rather than just giving you a different tablet, they could try flushing the ear or a more intesive treatment like an iv drip.

It sounds like an infection or bacterial problem and if it causing the cat discomfort it needs to be sorted out, as I am sure you will be breaking your heart over this too.

Please keep us informed as to how you are all getting on.
