Hi all.. I'm new here but not new to cats. I'm getting one today and he's a rescue cat from a friend, Jennifer. Her brother has one and he wants to give it away. It seems his 'wife' tried to shave the poor thing and nicked it!! :o SO the cat hates her and has bitten her two times, I wonder why?

Anyway, I can't wait to get him oh and his name is Rocker! Which fits perfect for me since I'm learning how to play the guitar. I get the kitten and all of his stuff so it's should be a semi easy transition for him. I hope. LOL

I expect to spend some time working with him to get him adjusted but I'm up to it. I've had dogs, cats and bunnies so I'm used to animals.

SO HI ALL!!

I am really mad and sad and extremely confused! i need opinions about a SERIOUS MATTER! :!:
One of my friends (on facebook) has posted pictures from one of her anatomy classes!...there are 3 pictures where they SKIN CATS! (it doesnt seem to be alive but it does have a gag in his mouth, so either the professor or the students killed it)
and since i already graduated college and know what is accepted (etc), as well as having a brother who is a professor (not in her university)
In a few of the comments i read that the professor takes stray cats, kills them (im not sure how) and then uses them for his classes!!
i asked my brother if this is legal! he said absolutely NOT!!!
NY universities do not use cats, dogs, bird, etc for anatomy classes for a 4 year basic college degree!!...(they only use rats and frogs)
I've never been to that university (but i do know where it is)
and i dont know the name of the professor...is there anything i can do to make this madman stop!!
i tried asking my friend the name/time of the class..but she wont tell me more than anatomy cuz she fears her professors reputation!
if hes doing this with one class, chances are hes doing it for his other anatomy classes as well, AND for each semester in the school year!
I have pictures! i want to post them but i fear its not appropriate for some people?
im shaking at the moment thinking of this psychopath being paid by the government to teach students such terrible disgusting things!!!!
what would you do??? please help! :(

Heh, so I have a complete failure of the mind right now and cannot think of a title, so that'll have to do :D

Kinda just been hanging out in the background, not really posting much but I haven't disappeared! Still with the kitties at the shelter, got yet another new favorite I'm going to have a hard time letting go of... Link1 - Link2 .. Getting tired of losing favorites time after time and time again, my last three faves had to be euthanized because they didn't get adopted and caught upper respiratory... No good.

So yeah, winter has most certainly set in here, we're talking single digits and negative Fahrenheit temperatures.. So needless to say, my job at the golf course is long over, so I'm jobless again.. And my truck's engine block heater is fried. Yay  .. My best friend (girlfriend I guess you can say) has been super busy with college courses, and since winter set in we really haven't been able to get out and do much together due to the cold, but that's mostly ok cuz we still talk every day.. It's nice that we can go for a while not seeing each other, and yet still remain close.

Some snowy scenery.. The top pics. I use the same tags throughout my sceneric gallery sooo, everything gets lumped in.. Linkificate!

Well I guess I kinda turned this into a rant, haha, sorry bout that... Wasn't the original intent but I feel better now. Anyway, I'm still hanging around.

I see tags are automatic now. Nice.

They were found abandoned in a field with their mom cat and 4 siblings (the mom and 4 siblings did not make it, all the cats were in very poor condition, infested with fleas, ear mites, and starving). They have been dewormed, deflead, and have their first two shots.
The kittens are in definte need of some fattening up and I would love some recommendations of quality kitten foods to feed them. Right now they are eating purina kitten chow mixed with fancy feast wet food 3 times a day. I continued what the rescue was feeding them to limit stomach upset as they adjust to our home.
Thanks to everyone who replies

Yesterday I adopted 2 female kittens about 9 weeks old. They were found abandoned in a field with their mom and 4 other siblings. Unfortunately, the mom and other siblings did not make it (there were reports that they all may have been thrown into the field from a moving car).

Sooo My name is Kara I am 23 years old and I was raised a cat lover. My friend had given me a kitten that was born outside some months ago and then asked for it back...to not cause problems with my best friend I had given "Molly" back. Molly is about a year old now and when I had gone over to my friends house I saw her outside and gobbled her up and promised that she would never live outside again. My friend told me she had gotten out and didn't want to come back inside for like 2 weeks... but she was still feeding her.

Ok now you have the history. I have had Molly BACK for 1 month 2 weeks approx. She is showing a huge interest in the food bowl all of a sudden, her stomach has gotten bigger and her nipples are not pink..but they feel leathery and they get hard. When I put an ear to her belly i hear little squishy sounds and sometimes I think I can feel something in her belly. I mean but can it just be gas and my imagination getting to me? Or does it sound like she is preggo? And if you think so about how big should her belly be?
I remember when i was pregnant and it was early on my husband said my son sounded squishy just like her belly. I ♥ Kitty's it's just so exciting.

What is the consensus as to discouraging him from tearing up the couch? chemical spray? squirt gun?

He is a good cat but when night comes he goes ape sometimes and just gets his freak on. It gets so intense sometimes I swear I wouldn't be suprised to hear a Tarzan call come from the living room, lol.
Really, just need advice on how to keep him from scratching the couch.

I have observed this situation twice, once about 15 years ago, and again recently.
In both situations, the household had a female cat, at least one male cat, and at least one dog. All of them got along allright. In both situations, the female cats had the sweetest dispositions as if they wouldn't hurt a fly. They would never utter more than a weak "mew!" and step carefully to avoid disturbing anything... EXCEPT when bringing a new kitten into the house! Then the female cats would hiss and howl as if the devil himself had taken possession of them and their hair would stand on end and claws extend and ears pin back..
Oddly, the dogs and male cats didn't get upset by the kittens.

In the 15 year old case, the female eventually accepted the kitten after about a month. In the recent case, the female never got used to the kitten at all so after several weeks my dad took the kitten away to a "no kill" shelter which was recently exposed for euthanizing over 75% of the cats brought in to them.

Incidentally, it seems to be practice for shelters to claim "no kill" in order to get funding and donations easier, when in fact they are running a mini death camp. But that's another story.

Are female cats generally that hostile towards kittens? Once the kitten was gone, the female cat didn't exhibit any more hostile behavior.

Of the 3 cats I have, one male is a shedder, yet never pukes or has hairballs. Another male is also a shredder, and occasionally pukes up liquid vomit. The female has soft fur and doesn't have hairballs or liquid vomit, but several times per week she will gag after eating and expel a 3 to 5 inch long "rope" of softened dry cat food pellets (which the other cats gobble up quickly if given the chance).

They used to all get hairballs before I moved in and brushed the loose hair and fur off. Also, the insane person that used to take care of those cats had several fiberous items laying around the house such as brooms (both real and decorative) and fiberous arts & crafts type garbage. I threw all of that stuff away which helped a lot (the cats would chew on them).

I don't know what else to do to improve the situation any further.

I have 3 cats, all about 12 years old.
Both the female and a male occasionally sloooowly approach the biggest male, and open their jaws wide, then clamp down on the base of his spine (right above the tail).

It seems spooky to me because it is done so slowly and deliberately.

Ironically, the big male that gets bit on the bum doesn't do that to the other cats, BUT he has a nasty habit that he exhibits mainly on me. He will be purring loudly, curl up into a ball and lay on his back with his legs tucked in.. and then.. with no warning whatsoever.. he will lash out with an instantaneous MEOW! and take a lightning fast swat yet gentle swat with his paw.
